Wings to Fly

When you came into this world, I was your mother
Responsible for keeping you alive
I fed you, clothed you, met your every need
So connected, we were One, you and I
As you grew into a toddler full of wonder
My love for you continued to grow
Your eyes, they shined with light like no other
Feeling safe enough, you learned how to say, “No”
You can do so many things now on your own
You are older and I feel you need me less
Inside, a part of me wants to hold on
But if I do, you will never reach your best
To let go, does not mean that you will die
To let go, will give you wings to fly
As you grow into the person you’re becoming
I feel the back and forth within your heart
A part of you knows that you are whole
Trust it…we will never be apart
To let go, does not mean that you will die
To let go, will give you wings to fly
You came into this world for your own reasons
Now I understand, I play a part
This life is yours to live the way you’ve chosen
And know, that you are always in my heart
To let go, does not mean that you will die
To let go, will give you wings to fly
To let go, will give you wings to fly
