It's been almost 10 years since my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I recorded my first solo harp CD, New Love "awaken to yourself" to help him relax during his recovery from surgery. Since then, New Love has found it's way into the hearts and lives of thousands of people searching for relaxation, comfort and a sense of peace.
Pilot studies conducted by William Collins, Ph.D., using Quantitative (EEG) indicated that this CD does in fact induce a state of relaxation in four minutes by decreasing the beta wave frequency and increasing the alpha wave frequency of the brain. In other words, the music relaxes and calms the brain in four minutes. These pilot studies led us to hypothesize that if we could relax and calm the brain in four minutes, perhaps we could impact the immune system in a positive way. Since New Love was originally recorded for my father who was diagnosed with prostate cancer (he's healthy and cancer free!), cancer was the most obvious place to start.
A larger scientific study was developed to see if the harp music could impact the immune systems of cancer patients. We decided that women would be more likely to listen to the music than men, so we arbitrarily chose 'women with breast cancer' as our population. To raise funds necessary to implement this study, the Scientific Arts Foundation was formed. www.scientificartsfoundation.org
Understanding the importance of 'intention,' it became clear that the New Love CD was not the music to use for our larger clinical study since the music was written by other artists. Three years ago, I recorded an original CD, "The Magic Mirror-Inspired Reflections," based upon the words of ancient healing chants. It was a powerful experience for me in that I had never recorded anything without music and this was my first attempt to just 'let the music flow through me and trust.'
Dr. Collins conducted a 3rd pilot study exploring the impact of "The Magic Mirror" on women undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer. Results indicated that "The Magic Mirror" had a direct positive impact on neurological functioning. After listening to this 23 min. CD once a day for 10 days, every neurological processing problem in every participant tended to normalize.
We have completed the protocol for our clinical study exploring the impact of this music on 120 adult cancer patients. Please read our Summary Page for more information.
